seems like school works are ending... 13th May is my FYP presentation (I still have much changes to do for now)... and i will have my finals next saturday... phew last exam for my undergraduate program... was telling sandip how unprepared I am for the working world... I still want to have long summer holidays... =)

weekend meet-ups with heidi came to an end... last month... i bid farewell to her...

i was glad that we finished the drop-landing lab... although it was tedious, i enjoyed working with a bunch of wonderful people...

sweden day... i enjoyed telling my wonderful time in sweden to those who are going there for exchange... mona will leave singapore for good by the end of may... wish i could host her when she travels to brunei...

my first time trying this restaurant... but i still prefer crystal jade's xiao long bao...

a couple of bible study mates and i went out for dinner at mof... i had hot-plate rice (9.80 sgd)... tasty... highly recommended by me... and it is time to start mugging~

saw the 3 cars parked outside my hall this afternoon and thought it was nice to take a photo of them. 10 more weeks and my undergraduate studies will be completed. was planning to have a lazy trip to somewhere or just home. sunday's message has got me thinking on how a christian could make one's holidays pleasing to the Lord. currently, workload is quite intense thus, exact holiday plans (if any) will come after my last paper. =)

just sent out my FYP progress report earlier on... and so i have some time to catch up with the recent news.. the disaster that is happening in haiti... i am sure many people are deeply grieved about the earthquake that killed and trapped many under the rubble... frustration is also building up as medical aid is still not within the reach of many victims...

i am, recently, reading the book of job during my quiet time... i cant help but to relate the haitians to job himself... he was also inflicted with lost, emotional and physical pain... but he didn't curse God at all... not even once...

i pray that brothers and sisters in Christ in haiti will continue to find peace and seek comfort in the Lord in times like these... i pray that aid in any forms will reach the people soon...

it was their first visit after my three and a half years in singapore... together, we went back to mom's hometown in malaysia, segamat, for a few days...

visited her secondary school...

i got to spend some time with my nephew... a very active little boy with mischievous smiles all the time...

my uncle had an operation on the last day of july this year to remove a tumor... he seems to be recovering well... and working as usual...

we spent most of the time shopping and eating in singapore... and we went on the singapore flyer... 10sgd for student, 20% off for tourist (need to show either boarding pass or passport)

bordeaux (22nd - 23rd july 2009)

ok, i have decided to continue to upload my summer pictures... haha.. this is so so off...but anyways.. here goes...

so after paris, the group split into two, one make their way to nice, and us, we made went to bordeaux - the land of wine...

we rented a car from AVIS...

found our way to Chateau Latour Martillac which is situated slightly off the town... through the tour agent which we paid about 5 euros for them to engage us with the person in charge of the chateau....

the chateau person was nice to give us a free tour... on how the business started... how to brew... the planting season... and finally how to taste good wine...

after the chateau visit... we went back to the town... we went to a few parks and rested... and left when we got chased out of the park in the evening...

we drove a little more to the north to find a place to stay for the night... and finally we found a NOT 24/7 mcdonald... parked outside and spent our night in the car... we got startled by the rain in the middle of the night... rolled up the windows... continued to sleep...

next morning... we were back in the railway station again... this time to barcelona...

roadtrip to sabah with my family on 21st -23rd last month

decided to take a 30mins break from my fyp reading... somehow got the urge to edit some of the photos i took in sabah last month...
last month was my first time seeing my family and friends in brunei after coming back from stockholm... i gave them a lil surprise as i didnt tell them that i was actually going back then...
it was hari raya period... so dad decided to take the family for a short vacation...

we set off after 16 hrs i arrived in brunei...

dad said the total journey was about 400+ km...

that's me dad in the temple... (i personally believe in salvation by faith, in jesus christ...)

souvenirs... one could get these from the stalls along the way to mount. kota kinabalu...

saw her running through the stalls... and eventually found her playing on her own....

paris (19th - 22nd july 2009)

we reached paris at around 10pm... the train tickets were really expensive...

to save some cost in the trip... we managed to have one kind soul, junzhe, to lend us his hostel room for the few days when we were in paris...

his hostel was in Lozère École polytechnique...

it's situated up on a hill... and we werent warned beforehand... when we reached his room, we were all pending... but hei.. cant complain.. free accommodation...

so 6 of us squeezed into a single room... suba and i had the bed... =)

second day, monday, we bought the wrong train ticket for 8euro... we didnt know that those tickets were weekend tickets... so we couldn't tap out after alighting.. they have to let us out through a gate... we had a good lunch 12 euros... and we joined the free guided tour...

those were the sites visited during the tour...

after the tour... we did some shopping as we made our way to the arc de triomphe...

we climbed up the arc de triomphe for 5.5euros... and we g0t to see paris on a higher ground... cant missed the eiffel tower...

we wanted to have a closer view of the eiffel tower...

the eiffel tower lights blink every hour... we reached the eiffel tower exactly at 12am... so we didnt get to go up... we spent about an hour to try to find a way back to the hostel... we ended up taking the very much avoided mode of transport... the cab... 40 euros each cab, we took two... the drivers didnt know the way, he dropped us one train-stop away from our hostel.... we had to walked back to the hostel... to comfort ourselves...we were got the free accommodation after all...

third day... we went to settle our train tickets to barcelona... that was already 4pm... and we walked around the town of paris... not the touristy sites...

those streets seemed like little india and little africa to me... the one regret in this trip that i have is i didnt get my hair braided... wencooked pasta that night... and it cost us only 15 euros... did our grocery shopping at leader price...

we spent the evening in souvenir shops... and walked around Louvre museum...

on the fourth day... 3 guys continued their journey to nice...

and we went on to bordeaux...

brussels (18th - 19th july 2009)

18th morning we left amsterdam... and within a few hours... we reached brussels...

we didnt have much time in brussel... but we managed to cover the central of the town (i dont think brussels has any free guided tour)...

and the nearby park....

and of course we wont miss the highlights...

amsterdam (16th -18th July 2009)

opps.. the amsterdam photos are a little bit over edited, i think... so on the 15th julywe left stockholm c in the evening and we reached amtersdam on the evening of 16th...

bicycles were everywhere... that's the first thing i noticed... and i started to miss my green bicycle in Lappis....

suba, one of our two navigators... led us to our hostel...

we rested, cleaned up and we went to search for our dinner...

we ended in some good restaurant... i cant really remember what we had.. but it was good... we walked a lil bit in the town during the night... i didnt sleep that well on the first night... the room was stinky and warm...

next morning... we went on the "free" guided walking tour...

the tour covered the red light district, a few main canals, and the buildings...

mind you, they get offended if you think amsterdam is like venice...

we were told that each house was taxed according to the width of the front of the house...

this is where the first corporation started... dutch east india company...

oo.. and the famous triple X... no one knows the truth behind it... but we were told that it could either mean “valor, resolution, and mercy” or "water, fire, and pestilence"...

notice that the very last building is leaning forward... many of the buildings in amsterdam meet the same fate... this is due to the method of transporting heavy stuff into the higher level of the building by the pulley system using the extended hook attached to the front of the building...

we walked pass anne frank's house...

after the tour... we went to heineken experience... where we got to see the beer brewing progress... and learned about its entrepreneurial founder... heineken is now managed by the fourth generation...

they tried to be innovative over the years... once, they thought of using their glass bottle to build walls~~~

europe summer trip (15th-29th july 2009) - part 1

we bought our inter-rail tickets @ 239 eur each...

so 95% of the time we travelled by train...

4% of the time we drove... 1% of the time we took the plane...

to ensure lots of fun in our trip... we brought...

not a faithful blogger, i am... i am thankful that i have finally gotten my accomodation... a new laptop... yay!... so i should really get started with my fyp SOON... the pictures for today are a lil bit outdated.. they were taken a day after singapore's bday @ east coast park...

yup... singapore is 44 this year...

a few church friends and i decided to spend the monday morning at east cast park...

we were wondering if the kayak rental was still there...

so we rented bikes from area c...

and cycled to area d, where the kayak rental was supposed to be...

we didnt find it... but we came to this garden area...

with beatiful flowers... it started to rain during noon time... we cycled back and had lunch together before heading back home...

it was a cool day to cycle...

on friday, my colleague told me "dont give up archipelago trip for staying to do work..." hmmm.. and so... zhenzhen and i joined one of the guys trip...

to sandhamn...

we walked awhile before settling down...

at a beach... it was pretty crowded...

thinking face... we only spent a few hours on the island taking photos... napping under the sun... walking around...

it was a really really warm day... adam told me that tomorrow is going to be 30degree C.. phew...

Bright and sunny day... cant resist to go out and soak up the sun... my corridormate and i ended up walking in the woods behind lappis... it was fabulous... we walked to...

last saturday, it was about half pass 6 when we reached back to lappis...

we went shopping... since spring is here... days are brighter and longer... sunglasses are highly sought after...

before shopping... we had late lunch at Hötorgshallen...

we finally tried the famous fishsoup...

for 85sek... yUm...

guess what we did before the lunch and shopping...

yesh... we went for the "international pillow fight day" in stockholm, t-centralen....

the pilow fight lasted more than 10mins for sure...

i got pretty exhausted just 5 mins after it started...

everyone was running around.. every now and then groups of people would charged into the middle of the crowd with pillows...

young and old... everyone enjoyed it... i guess...

not everyone's pillow lasted till the end...

the event started at 2pm sharp... and we all looked ready for the pillow fight!!

my pillow survived the fight...

Just yesterdayafternoon, a few of the NCST went for an ice hockey match at globen...

it was a match of czech vs. russia...

both teams seemed equal at the begining...

after awhile, it was obvious that czech was weak in their attack, they were not able to score even when it was 5 on 3...

russia won the match in the end, 6-3...

i guess everyone enjoyed the game, kids were on stand-by to collect the purk...

and us too, waiting for a chance to pick up one...

woohoo...had two crazy weeks, no sun, lotz of work and school work but still fun... i think...
just last week, everyone in the company worked really hard. Everyday my colleague and i, spent more than 8 hours in the workshop listening to christmas love songs on radio, not that we wanted to, that's the only channel receivable from the workshop to entertain us.

so what happened since the last entry...

our dear seniors are going back to singpaore soon, and so it's time to show their appreciation in this dinner...

they had it in an asian restaurant which had the best chicken satay! i, somehow, thought it's just chicken chop on a stick!...

following that weekend...

our darling zhenzhen organised a potluck dinner for huimin (noc stuff) who came to stockholm for a visit...

in the dinner we celebrated birthdays, and with birthdays, the party always proceed on to the lake, to have some lake throwing!!!...

no doubt, everyone enjoyed it very much...

especially those who were still dry...

the night went on with wii...

my body ached after much boxing game, no kidding...

The following weekend i had lighter activities...

a few of us went to our mentor's place for christmas baking session, most families do it to get into the christmas mode...

and we baked Lussekatter bun, it is a very sweet smelling bun (contains saffron) with resins on it...

and we were being creative to make all shapes and sizes....

ginger cookies the christmas cookies, only found during christmas seasons, not my favorite, but it goes well with cofffee or choco drink, i was told that if you eat the ginger cookie, you be a better person...

we ended up baking too many buns, enough to feed the whole world, that each of us had packed at least two bags of them back...

then we had lunch at 330pm...

contented after a day of baking and chicken curry for lunch...

Lotz happened after the weekend to poland. was preparing for the company's one day trip to germany, to attend a medical trade fair. school work and everything else...

1st day in poland

hello!! (Suba and i realised that its rude to say hej when you are out of sweden)

today i am in poland warsaw for the weekend. this morning i took a bus from t-centralen at 1120am to skavsta airport. 1415 flight to the airport in warsaw. the flight was slighty more than an hour.

when i came out of the plane, first thing i said was " my gosh, i think i am back in brunei" the air has a distinct smell, i guess there was opening burning nearby or something.

while waiting for the bus 188 to take us to Gus ( the hostel place area), most of us started to take out the food we packed earlier this morning and we shared.. (well doesnt sound that hygienic , but oh well.. sharing is caring.). the bus came at 420pm sharp.

the bus ride allowed me to realise that poland is a place with alot of posters around and construction sites and dully built high rise buildings. somewhat reminded me of china's old, historical and messy atmosphere... and i love it and still miss china!!

however, some of us, didnt manage to get down from the crowded bus and the guy who knows the way to hostel was one of them.. so for those who managed to get off we had a helpful old polish man to show us the way to our hostel, and not long after, the rest came to join.

dinner we had some polish food with awesome polish live music performance. and after that, the gals plus sanjay walked back to our hostel (Jump Inn, apretty decent pace, 60 LZ per person), while the rest went to hard rock!!

this trip seems to be so far so good so fun, as we have 11 of out 13 of our batch with us. fun fun..

okie im gg to sleep.. pictures should be up next week. we be going to Auschwits and Krakow tomorrow.

Hej... finally did some accounting and realised that i have overspent. been shopping for two weekends now. Bought Everest 45L bckpack (299SEK), Puma sweater (199SEK, good deal!), H&M formal jacket (248SEK) and Ginatricot cardigan (99SEK, best deal!). woohoo!! broke... not to mention that Mel, ZhenZhen and i went to a fancy restauran.t, Pelikan (serves authentic swedish food), on friday night (225SEk pp).i had swedish hash.

need to survive my november with just 500SEK now. =(

However, those weren't the most expensive weekends. The most expensive weekend is the best so far in sweden. Spent a total of 612SEK on 18th and 19th Oct on the largest Archipelago island, Utő.

early morning on the 18th...

we set off from Lappis...

to catch a train to...

where we need to a bus before taking the boat to the island...

while waiting for the bus, our tummies groan...

delicious dannish bread kept groanning tummies satisfied...

finally, we got to the boat...

we went up to the top of it and enjoyed looking out to the calm sea...

and clicking our cameras away...

around noon, we reached Uto and were looking for accomodation. It seemed common, that people of the island would rent out their summer houses or cottages which they built to holiday makers...

after spending several hours in finding a place to stay, we decided on a 1400SEK cottage and we got a free 4Km ride to the cottagefrom the town on a pickup track of the owner ...

the owner built this cottage by himself, and he also built a school in the island...

the cottage was fully furnished with pots andpans, towels, etc...

the owner gave us another free ride to the town to rent our bicycles for $100 each...

and we were already to attend that night's autumn celebration on the island... with fire...

the town council treated everyone warm cider and to an impressive fire dance performance, out in the open field...

we went to tell them how wonderful the performance was...

my friend decided to do some tricks too, the lighted fire sticks were given to everyone after the warm cider and we were to hold on to it and walk to the open area where the performance took place. before the performance, we were told to put off together by plunging it head on to the ground. the sticks were very useful for our journey back to the cottage in the pitch-dark night...

we rode slow and steady, and we did make it back...

and it was time to feed our tummies with a mini steamboat in the cold night, and most of us head to bed and snored through the night after a happening day...

after breakfast, we headed towards the west of the island where we were told a beautiful coastline...

the ride was rather quiet and it was soothing to the mind...

we rode across what seemed like a borderless field with the only path leading us to the coastline...

and we reached the coastline after more than an hour of ride and i couldn't wait to take off my shoes to dip my feet in the water... having that done...

we "rock-climbed" our way to the furthest rock out there...

after much exploration, we decided to head back for late lunch, and pack for home. All in all, we had a good time and with so much cycling, all of us started our week with sore buttocks...

when a shadow was cast over my face.. i moved, to let the sunlight reach my face again... a thing which every single soul in stockholm enjoyed today...

weather does have an impact on your mood..

everywhere is colorfully painted...

the weekend has been a fun one!! saturday we played a game, similar to "the apprentice"... food was the reward by the end of the day...

the weekend started off with birthday celebration for the Oct pepz, on friday night, and no one can escape the NCST birthday treats!! everyone would cheer for the person to be thrown into the chilly lappis lake, and after that they would kindly return the dry jacket and clothe to the person whos freezing from head to toe ( i couldnt feel my toe till i "thawed" in warm shower), ain't that sweet, this shows that we are a family!!...

yesterday, was the long awaited day for me! to go mushroom picking. it was very sweet of Malin (my colleague) to invite me and a few friends to join her family on this trip. every autumn, the most of the swedes love to spend their time walking in the woods to pick mushrooms/berries.

so at around 1pm we set off from lappis to akersbergay brottby, the weather was as predicted to have sunshine, which was a pleasant news to us...

to find mushrooms, we went extra miles away from the city...

once we found a good place (forest), we were ready to pick some mushrooms with either pile or paper bag (try to avoid plastic bags), boots (ground maybe damped), army knife and a good sense of direction (which malin's husband has)...

not far into the woods...

we found one type of the edible mushrooms, called trattkantarell...

and we greedily bagged them away...

then we found the second type of edible one, called kanterall...

everyone kept their heads low, however it wasn't easy to find and recognise the edible ones...

as there still many other types along the way...

we saw those looked like what super mario eats (it is poisonous)...

walking further in the woods...

and everytime we looked up from ground, the view was always that mesmerizing...

the puppy was as excited as we were...

but it got tired at times and started to whine...

time flies when we were having fun...

and by the end of the day, i was very proud of our lovely yields...

.....so what happened to the mushrooms in the end? did we eat them with butter happily ever after?

i wished that was the end of the story...

in my attempt to dry them in the oven, obviously, it didnt turn out well...

i wished i was still in bed, i wished i could escape work which didnt have much progress since a week ago...

as i was walking to the busstop...

after much squatting and bending in the workshop during work, to cheer me up, a sunny evening waited for me...

on my way back, food cravings came again, and this time it brought me to KTH La Reginella for its pasta @ 62SEk. ka ching!...

at least that food cravings is satisfiable, unlike these cravings, it's way out of reach... (still miss shanghai)

i did report reading during work, was sleepy halfway through.. good thing my company has got two fika a day. My colleague felt bad for me, as their conversations were in swedish most of the time during fika, but it was okay, i was really enjoying my choco-coffee, cookies and sandwiches and i should learn swedish soon... i told her.

arini and i went for a swim after work... and we found that the membership fee for the pool is now 200SEK cheaper than a month ago when we joined. felt cheated...

after a good swim, we walked back to our blocks...

when i reached the kicthen, i was greeted with...

table set for dinner...

with laura, federika and andre preparing mouth-watering pizza...

bei cooking yummy "yang huang gua" and a few more dishes prepared by other corridormates...

i came empty-handed, naturally, i ended up doing the dishes along with other freeloaders tonight.

today is a hot hot day, 28'C, no wind.. Office lab finally turned on the aircon. so it's quite comfortable inside. and i finally gotten my programme to work (okie, i just added 100++ of arrays, create100++ of files, declare 100++ of variables to my mentor's programme). the remaining work is to modify it abit here and there.. hopefully can be done before tomorrow night, as the local undergrads from Sandip's lab friends are treating us to a dinner. so sweet of them..

the next few pictures were taken when i was waiting for the 730pm bus just now, as i missed the 7pm bus. i fed alot of mosquitoes too. summer is finally here...

no.. this is not what i have tonight.. it's also taken some days ago.. but just want to show that a decent meal like this cost only RMB8 , it's called the 九州面. it's again yumyum.. okie limited vocab i have...

okie... I'm not good at keeping a blog, 2 weeks from the last. :)

The BIEs try very hard to not sit in their individual room during the weekends, starting from friday night. we make sure we explore some places. so the following pictures are taken on the 31st May the night of the family day:

so hero, gal and champion went to people's park which is near nanjingxi lu...

we alighted at the peopl's square station and this is the sight once coming out of the subway... this big building, sandip and i named it the "dilbert" buidling. coz the two antennas look like dilbert's boss' hair...

we found a street with many food places... we went to a HK restaurant...

we were happy to see cheap food..and we tend to over order... our tummies were full to the brim...

after dinner it was passed 11pm.. we decided to walk around the place and try to locate Shanghai Museum since we have already missed the train back and the only way back was to call the QQ . Along the way, we saw this guy singing and playing on his guitar on the street...

temp. that night was about slightly less than 20... the girl came to ask if we would like to join her at the pub... we said no thx...

we managed to talk to the singer... he said he was practising out in the street since he wasn't playing in the bar that night. and we saw him returning the money that people put in his guitar casing...

the Shanghai Museum, we took what seems like hours to reach here whereas our "survival" map showed it's just one street across the people's square station, guess who was our navigator? it was passed midnight when we reached here...

yes... Mr Champ was our navigator.. he was on the phone calling xiao gu (the QQ driver, QQ here means Xiao Hei Che) to pick us from people's square station...

on our way back to people's square station, we saw this Nike Shanghai shop... sandip was interested in the singlet...

we were waiting for the xiao gu, i saw beautiful flowers, love them, so pretty, one of the many many wonderful creations of God...

that night we reached hostel at around 2am..

abit of info:

QQ charged us RMB 60 from ppl sq stn back to our school's maingate. the ride was slightly less than an hour. comfortable.

train ticket from dong chuan station ( the nearest station from our campus, about 25mins walk) to ppl sq stn cost RMB 6. total time taken 1hr 30mins. Standing and walking all the way.

we started our day late... so reached the Shanghai Museum at 330pm...

we joined in the queue.. this queue was the 2nd queue, the 1st queue was right infront of the main door, so we thought slim chance that we could get in. but we waited...

sad face coz of the long queue and people were cutting queue too at the front... we entered the museum at slightly over 4pm...

i love this item the best, it was used to contain water, made of bronze, not sure which year it's from...

a closer at it, it has got fishes, ducks, turtles, toad...

we didnt even managed to cover the 1st floor. so we will be back some other time.

admission is free, charges RMB 5 if there is special exhibition. it opens 7 days a week. closes at 5pm.

the10th day in shanghai

Saturday night.. xiao long bao.. nope, we didn't get to try it. we supposed to meet sandip's friend at 6pm, East Nanjing Rd station, but we were late by an hour or so. We felt bad. We walked to the old shanghai town where the famous xiao long bao in shanghai is. We reached exactly at 8pm and it was sold out already, they closes at 8pm by the way. However, this restaurant has 3 different grades of xiao long bao the tops ones were gone, left with the 3rd class xiao long bao for take away, the queue to take away was quite long too. So we settled in some other restaurant with xiao long bao and dim sum. :( But we will be coming again the next time. The old shanghai town spectacular is at night.
After dinner, sandip's friend brought us to XinTianDi, it's where people ( many are expat.) drink and chill out.
Sunday, i read my papers over again trying to find topics to work on mental rotation. Finally decided on something. I managed to listen to a recorded sermon, and from that message, i think it's a good reminder to me: God is slow to anger and great in power, but that doesn't mean He will let the guilty go unpunished.
Monday, we three set out early to extend our visa, apparently they only allow you to extend your visa within the month of the expiry date of the visa. so the two guys didn't get to do it. but i did mine, as mine ends on 10th june. Back to school, i talked to yan jing about my idea regarding my experiment, she suggested to bring it up to Prof. and the Prof. seemed to be okay with it. i just need to come out with more details and i may start my experiment 2 weeks from now, meanwhile i shall do some prog. C and matlab.. oh no.. programming...

so we debated awhile whether to join queue and try the take away xiao long bao (lowest class of xiao long bao).. we decided not to in the end, as we will be coming back some other time.

so we settled with the other restaurant xiao long bao.. RMB 25 for 9 or 10 ( don't really remember)
we tried this bao too. ( i forgot what isit called), with a straw poking into the bao for you to drink the soup before opening it up to eat.

Well, I'm in the lab just to use the internet to blog, as i cant go online in my hostel, and get some work done, hopefully. Sandip and i walked 30mins to reach here from our block, phew, the bus schedule is just "incredible" on weekends. They make only four trips, @ 8am, 130pm, 530pm and 930pm.
Tonight, sandip's friend is bringing us out to try the original "xiao long bao". We had some "fake" ones last night after our grocery shopping and dinner (the most expensive sofar, and we decided not to again try those places, see pics).

after reaching The Bund in the afternoon, we decided to walk back to where we came from that morning for dinner and walk back to The Bund again for the night scene. And there were many beggars along the away, and most of them were women.

we went for the "fake xiao long bao" after the KFC, tho it's fake i think it tasted good, i mean it's RMB8 for 16. yum! this place is just infront of SJTU. we took QQ car (they call it xiao hei che) back from where we did our grocery shopping. it's RMB 5

u find this everywhere in SJTU. i like the words in chinese (small grass is resting, please dont disturb), eng is funny(keep grass.. err..).

the 7th day in Shanghai

This morning I finally warmed up the food prepared by Amina, that’s because my breakfast had run out. It’s yum yum. And the 3 of us attended the Friday everyone-must-be-present meeting (the big meeting of the week) at 930am and it lasted till lunch.

They had us intro ourselves, followed by an emotional presentation by one of the master students. What he presented wasn’t the normal update on his project, he was criticizing one of those “guan shui” papers (papers found in the forum, bbs, with no originality at all, meaning by just altering other’s math equation, then make it their own equation) and the paper happened to be from NUS.. and then he went on to talk about his feelings on the matter of the WenChuan earthquake (everyone here takes the matter to heart) and makes him think whether what he is doing is meaningful or not. Prof. Tong agreed with him and thought his research, for awhile, seems meaningless to him, however, he thinks the research can work towards in helping mankind. This is followed some chit chat among the students and profs. And it ended with Prof. Zhu (head of the department) giving two safety precautions: traffic matters and HFM prevention (Yan Jing told me Prof. Zhu always end the meeting that way). Then everyone went for their lunch, including us.

After lunch, we headed back to our own labs. I tried finding experiment topics to work on. But I need to know the basic such as what is the significance of mental rotation and how does it help in navigation, but to no avail, so I think I will just reread the one of the 3 readings to dig out some topics to work on. And hopefully it’s “meaningful”.

Okay, I need to catch the 7pm bus. So the following will be pictures again. And tonight we will be doing some grocery shopping.

the 6th day in Shanghai

I was told that i can't login into blogger in China, but I think I can still add post, tho i can't view my own blog. I am currently in my lab (life science department), completed the 3 readings given to me for this week so i decided to try blogging for the 1st time.

There isn't much happening these few days other than coming to lab and trying to get myself oriented. Well, two nights ago we (Sandip, Kelvin and I) managed to meet up with the Singapore students from our block (Block 8, this block is only for exchange students which charges us RMB35 per day, the local students will stay in other blocks which charges @ RMB 5/day, this is due the facilities available to the foreigner students like toilet, aircon/heater , TV & bedsheets provided in the room). They are here for exchange, since Feb this year.

Yesterday, I met an African-Muslim lady from Niger, Amina, she was making her lunch in the kitchen. She is a very chatty person and she speaks good mandarin which makes me feel ashame of myself. She insisted to pack some of her cooking for me, which looks really really good. well, i haven't try it, it's still in my fridge, will warm it up and try it tonight. :)

Today, my first meeting with the group, doing the neuro-science part. btw, my group is doing an experiment on mental rotation and my experiment (testing subject: human) will start the week after next. In the meeting, all speak mandarin, so i understand only 50% of it. Yup. Tomorrow, one more meeting to go and then it's weekend!!

I have roughly sum-up all that happened for the past few days. Weather is quite cold. But it's getting warmer now. Today is about 23'C.
